When disaster strikes, it is too late to wish you had an emergency radio!

The Eton American Red Cross FR 160 Microlink AM/FM/NOAA weather radio is an ultra-portable device that's ideal to have on hand when you're roughing it. There are no plugs or wires required. Instead, turn the hand crank to power the built-in rechargeable batteries, or capture the sun's energy and run it on solar power. You'll always know what's going on, thanks to the AM, FM, and weather bands.

Built-in hand crank power generator recharges the internal rechargeable Ni-MH battery and most cell phone batteries.

Be prepared for any type of weather emergency. The American Red Cross Microlink FR 160 is solar-powered and self-powered emergency radio that includes all seven NOAA emergency weather bands, as well as standard AM and FM broadcast bands. Its built-in rechargeable Ni-MH batteries can be charged either by placing the radio in the sun and allowing the built in amorphous solar array do the job, or by turning the hand-crank dynamo charger. Two minutes of cranking will give you 20+ minutes of radio power.

To be prepared, buy one now before you need it.

The unit has a telescoping antenna for FM and the emergency weather bands, a built-in speaker and a jack for a 3.5 mm earphone, plus a wrist strap. There is also a bright 3 LED flashlight built into the side of the emergency radio.

This is a very compact and portable radio that is perfect for camping, backpacking, boating, picnics or the beach. It measures 5 inches by 2.5 inches by 1.75 inches and weighs only 8 ounces. It fits very nicely into a pack or the pocket of your trousers.

Having all seven NOAA emergency weather bands is an important feature in an emergency radio. Low quality emergency radios typically include only one band, which may not cover the reception for your area of the country.

There is an option to charge the radio using a USB connector (USB cord not included). If you have a standard USB camera adapter, that should work fine. You can also use the FR160 radio's hand-crank charger to charge you cell phone in an emergency. A cell phone cord is included and a postcard that you can mail in to receive the appropriate adapter for your particular cell phone model at no extra cost.
